Studio Gear
This is a place that will show some of the gear that I use when creating music,
animation or anything of the like. Feel free to ask any questions that you may
have on going about making music on the computer or any types of trouble
shooting issues you may have with MIDI connections or signal path road blocks.
I’ll try to help out to the best of my ability.
Here are the main components which comprise my studio.
My studio from a glance. I spend most of my life in this room.
The bad ass picture of Bitey above was done by no other than Adam Phillips
of Bitey Castle.
Basically, The Cintiq 21UX is connected to the MacBook Pro via DVI and the
monitor behind the Cintiq is connected to the PC under the desk.
This is an oldy but a goody. It’s a groove sampler called the SP-808.
For those of you that are familiar with this model, I’ve upgraded it to
the E-mix version which has a bunch of new effects that you can slap
on your audio along with being able to install a 250 MB zip drive which
I’ve done as well. This connects via MIDI to my Guitar Rig 2 Kontrol for
all sorts of expressive possibilities. Not to mention the kick ass D-Beam
controller.
And finally The Guitar Rig V.2 that connects to both the PC and the Macbook.
For those who are unaware of what this floor unit does, it acts as a way to
manipulate the sounds that come out my guitar. The pedal to the right controls
things like pitch and the good old wah wah pedal. The midi connections on the
back allow me to trigger off things like my sampler in realtime which is pretty
fancy because I can have hands free operation for the transport functions
Inside my host program, Cubase SX 4.
So that’s my gear in a nut shell. Check into this section of the blog frequently
when I post a signal flow chart that outlines the way all this stuff is connected.
But until then……
Happy creating!
C.S. Murphy
